East Timor     FABC SECRETARY ISSUES MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY WITH INDONESIAN BISHOPS
The Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) assured Indonesian bishops on Tuesday of its solidarity during the East Timor crisis through a letter to the chairman of the Indonesian bishops' conference.
Archbishop Oscar Cruz of Lingayen-Dagupan, secretary general of FABC, sent the message a day after Indonesia imposed martial law in East Timor.
"Do assure (the Indonesian bishops) that many join them in their hopes and pains, specially in their fervent prayer and apostolic work for harmony and peace during these difficult times in the country," Archbishop Cruz wrote.
Archbishop Cruz, the president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), also prayed that "God continue to bless and strengthen, to inspire and guide" bishops and clergy of Indonesia and East Timor in their "delicate pastoral task."
His letter was sent to Bishop Josephus Suwatan of Manado, president of the Konferensi Waligereja Indonesia (KWI, Indonesian bishops' conference).
