|East Timor||EMOTIONS RUN HIGH AT CHURCH SERVICE FOR EAST TIMORESE|
There were emotional scenes on Wednesday night at a Catholic Church service in Brisbane's south-west, dedicated to those suffering in East Timor.
Parishioners of Graceville's Christ the King Church were urged to get financially tough with Indonesia.
With more than 300 worshippers turning out for the Mass, the church's pews were quickly filled and some had to pray outside.
Speaking from a lectern draped in traditional East Timorese cloth, Father Gerry Hefferan urged the congregation to boycott Indonesian products and services.
"This is a well orchestrated plan of evil with little respect for human life," he said.
Community worker Paul Toon was visibly upset as recounted his experiences in the troubled land and echoed Father Heferran's calls for sanctions.
"We are people of faith, we are people of hope, we will not be beaten by this indignity to humanity," he said.
