East Timor     BISHOP BELO LEAVES FOR PORTUGAL, ROME
East Timor's spiritual leader Bishop Carlos Belo left Darwin yesterday for Portugal.
Bishop Belo was evacuated from East Timor on Tuesday night.
It is understood he will spend some time in Portugal, and then go to the Vatican. He has reportedly been in contact with the Vatican Secretariat of State by telephone from Darwin, providing reports and advice on the situation in Timor.
Meanwhile, the territory's other bishop, Bishop Basilio Nascimento of Bacau, told Portuguese radio: "We are all going to die".
Earlier, he fled to the hills after suffering a knife wound while trying to protect people who had sought refuge in his compound.
