Africa    30 HUTU CHURCHGOERS MASSACRED IN BURUNDI
Sources of the Rome-based MISNA missionary news agency report that last Sunday a group of men in uniform opened fire on the Catholic Church outside the capital Bujumbura, killing an estimated 30 worshippers.
Hundreds of people were gathered in the church for Sunday Mass.
Eyewitnesses say the attack was carried out by soldiers, many of whom were Ugandan.
Many more members of the largely Hutu congregation were detained in concentration camps and denied humanitarian assistance.
A human rights observer commented: "It is undoubtedly a system to deprive the Hutu rebels, who use the local population for their incursions, of all their resources."
