Vatican     HOPE FOR IMMINENT CHINA-VATICAN TIES
Sources from both the "open" and "underground" Church communities in various parts of China have heard from official and unofficial sources that Beijing and the Vatican will establish diplomatic relations soon.
Bishop Pius Jin Peixian of Liaoning told UCA News earlier this month that he did not consider such talk merely a rumor, because he heard of the possibility from local government Religious Affairs Bureau (RAB) officials in late August.
"It is an open secret," said the bishop from northeastern China.
Bishops in Shanxi and Hunan provinces also reported hearing similar news from local government officials, while bishops in Xi'an and Hebei said Catholics were talking about the rumored possibility of ties being established.
