Vatican     HOLY SEE SUPPORTS GLOBAL TOURIST ETHICS CODE
Tourist activity cannot ignore the promotion of human dignity, the Vatican's representative told the general assembly of the World Tourism Organisation in Santiago.
Bishop Piero Monni said that "the writing of [a tourist ethics] code counts on the ... development of tourism to be respectful, both of the natural environment and eco-system, as well as of the different socio-cultural contexts the traveler will encounter along the way."
The Bishop said that from the very beginning of the World Tourism Organisation, "the Holy See ... has always emphasised the duty to uphold and defend ethical values, including the spiritual and religious values of different peoples. Included in the Holy See's institutional objectives is to uphold the commitment to the values mentioned, because they are the foundation of universal fraternity and the dialogue among peoples."
