|Vatican||INDIVIDUALISM MUST BE OVERCOME IN RECONCILIATION|
Pope John Paul II emphasised the communitarian dimension of the sacrament of reconciliation during his regular Wednesday audience.
He said that the repentant sinner's reconciliation with God not only affects our relation with God, but also with our brothers and sisters. Therefore, like sin, reconciliation has a communitarian dimension, beyond "the doctrine on the need for individual confession".
He said that the sacrament of forgiveness that "works as an antidote to the lacerating character proper to sin". In fact, sinful human beings "not only distances themselves from God, but sow seeds of division within themselves and in their relationships with their brothers and sisters".
