Vatican     CZECH CHRISTMAS TREE FOR VATICAN
This year's Christmas tree for St Peter's Square will be a towering fir from the Czech Republic, Vatican Radio reported yesterday.
The radio's Czech-language program said the tree will go up on Dec. 18 during a ceremony. The trees height wasn't immediately released.
Different countries vie for the honour of having one of their evergreens chosen to decorate the square when millions of pilgrims and tourists come to Rome for the holidays.
This year the occasion will be exceptional, given it is the beginning of the 2000 Holy Year, and tens of millions of extra visitors are expected in Rome for millennium celebrations.
