Vatican     POPE CALLS FOR CANCELLATION OF POOR NATIONS' DEBTS
International celebrities have joined Pope John Paul II in calling for the cancellation of debts of the world's poorest countries for the new millennium.
A group, including Bono of the rock group U2, composer Quincy Jones and charity campaigner Bob Geldof, has discussed the call with the Pope at the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo.
The Pope welcomed them as delegates of the movement Jubilee 2000 which is seeking the cancellation of debts as a fitting gesture to mark the millennium.
