National    GRIM FUTURE FOR REFUGEES: MELBOURNE BISHOP
Bishop Hilton Deakin sees a grim future for other East Timorese refugees if the Federal Government wins a case before the full bench of the Federal Court involving a Chinese East Timorese refugee.
The Government has appealed to the court's full bench against an earlier decision by a single judge to grant refugee status to Ko Lay from East Timor.
Bishop Deakin, who demonstrated with other supporters outside the Federal Court in Melbourne two weeks ago, said it was sad that the Government had tried to overturn the court's decision.
"Why can't we do for the East Timorese something similar to the welcome we gave Kosovars?" he asked.
