Ireland    CATHOLIC ANTI-ABORTIONIST BECOMES EUROPEAN MP
Former Irish Eurovision Song Contest winner Dana, a devout Catholic who is noted for her vehement opposition to abortion, yesterday won a seat in the European Parliament.
She has been living in Birmingham, Alabama with her husband and four children but told the Irish Independent daily newspaper she would be happy to relocate to her constituency.
She said the wishes of the Irish people would have to be taken into account on abortion, which is illegal except in very exceptional circumstances in Ireland, and on Partnership for Peace, the organisation which the Irish government wishes to join and which is seen as an ante-room to NATO.
Dana has worked as a chat show host in the United States on Mother Angelica's religious cable television network, Eternal World Television Network.
