Hong Kong     CARDINAL DEFENDS RIGHT OF ABODE
Cardinal John Baptist Wu has criticised Hong Kong government plans to deny residency to children born on the mainland to Hong Kong parents.
In a strongly-worded pastoral letter, he maintained the principle of the right to family reunion and the children's right of abode, despite opposing voices from Hong Kong society.
He said the government policy, and the attitude of the people was "engendering a certain resistance on the part of Hong Kong residents to Mainland people with lamentable consequences"
Referring to Hong Kong residents' hardening of hearts due to economic uncertainty, the Cardinal appealed to Hong Kong residents to regard "all within the four seas [as] one family".
