Adelaide    LORD MAYOR EJECTS CHURCHES FROM IMAGE
Adelaide's Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax-Smith has ordered that the 'City of Churches' tag be dropped. She said it puts off tourists, "who must think tahe city is a dull place".
Dr Lomax-Smith said Adelaide is the cultural capital of Ausralia, and that was the sort of thing that should be promoted more vigorously.
"I don't know what the City of Churches means to an outsider but to me it means we're a quiet, staid and conservative city," she said. "Clearly we need a marketing image that's not staid and conservative."
Dr Lomax-Smith said Adelaide is no more a City of Churches than a City of Pubs - it has 71 taverns and 33 churches.
