Vatican    PAPAL JOKES PUBLISHED
An Italian publishing house as released a book of anecdotes and idiosyncrasies of 20th Century popes, comprising stories heard behind Vatican walls written by a priest who signs himself 'Anonymous'.
    Following the Allies' entry into the War in 1944, U.S. ambassador Robert Murphy was received in audience by Pope Pius XII. Murphy, who had met Pacelli when he was Secretary of State, said to the Pope: "Your Holiness, do you remember what you prophesied to me in 1931? 'Hitler is only a passing phenomenon,' you said, and instead ..." "Ah!, the Pope replied, of course I remember, but that happened before I became infallible."
