Philippines    FORMER SPICE GIRL IGNORES CHURCH CRITICISM
In the face of high-level criticism from the Catholic Church, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell advocated sex education for the young on the second day of her mission to the Philippines as United Nations goodwill ambassador.
Halliwell, 27, did not answer reporters' questions on the church's views. The UN program country representative Satish Mehra also refused to comment, and a key sponsor said ``We do not want to dignify [the criticism] with a response''.
Catholic Bishops' Conference spokesman sid: ``The message that she is bringing to our country is hurting our Catholic sensibility. I wish that the sponsoring groups, the U.N. most especially, would send people who would be respectful of our sentiments.''
