East Timor    BISHOPS MEET WITH ANTI-INDEPENDENCE MILITIAS
East Timor's two Catholic bishops met yesterday with leaders of anti-independence, pro-Indonesia militias responsible for dozens of deaths in recent weeks in the leadup to August's referendum.
Dili's Bishop Carlos Belo and Baucau's Bishop Basilio do Nascimento of Baucau met with the faction leaders in Baucau. The meeting was called to work on reconciliation talks called the Dare Dialogue which would bring together pro- and anti-independence leaders.
