Indonesia    CHURCH LEADERS CONDEMN ELECTION DAY STUDENT KILLING
Church and community leaders in Indonesia's easternmost province of Irian Jaya have condemned the killing of a local high school student by a soldier on election day (7 June).
UCA News reports that 22 year old Catholic school student Robby Yaung was shot to death on a pick-up truck when he and his two friends were on their way home after casting their votes.
The agency understands the incident occurred when a group of soldiers asked for a ride, but the youths ignored them. One soldier, apparently angry, opened fire at the vehicle, killing Yaung and wounding his two friends.
Reacting to the killing, some 500 people in Jayapura marched last week to the provincial House of Representatives to vent their anger. Local Protestant leaders called the killing "a gross violation of human rights."
