Indonesia    CATHOLICS DID NOT PROVOKE RIOTS: BISHOP
Bishop Alexander Djajasiswaja of Bandung in Indonesia's West Java province has labelled as false reports that Catholics were involved in riots throughout the country, UCA News reports.
Furthermore, Catholics working in mass media must combat false media reports that say Catholics were involved in various riots, Bishop Djajasiswaja said at Mass to mark the 33rd World Communications Day.
"It is not true that Catholics were involved in the Ambon riots. In fact, it was Catholics who helped riot victims. Those who sought protection from Sacred Heart Bishop Petrus Mandagi of Amboina were not only Christians but also Muslims," he said.
Violence in Ambon and other parts of Maluku province, in eastern Indonesia, which erupted in January, killed hundreds of people. It was finally contained by mid-March following tough actions of the military against provokers.
