A bishop formerly not recognised by the government in Henan province, where most Catholic Church leaders belong to the "underground" Church, has been installed in the government-recognised "open" Church.
UCA News reports that Augustinian Bishop Nicolas Shi Jingxian of Shangqiu read a statement pronouncing affiliation to the open Church during his installation on Ascension Thursday at the cathedral in Shangqiu city, central China.
Bishop Shi said on Friday that he believed it would be easier to get former Church properties back after his official installation, which he said would facilitate Church development. Bishop Shi was ordained a priest in 1948 and consecrated a bishop secretly in 1991.
