Ireland    WOMAN PRIEST SUPPORTERS PRESENT PETITIONS TO IRISH BISHOPS
The Irish organisers of a petition urging the Church to remove its ban on women priests have said they obtained the signatures of 22,000 supporters.
Catholic World News reports that the petition was sent to the country's 35 bishops, eight of whom sent letters of acknowledgment to the organizing body, Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC).
BASIC spokesman Soline Vatinel said the response from the eight bishops was "a small miracle." She said the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Luciano Storero, had refused to meet BASIC to accept the petition. The Primate of All Ireland, Archbishop Sean Brady, did not reply to a letter seeking a meeting.
