|PNG||RELIEF WORKER APPOINTED BISHOP|
Franciscan Friar Austen Crapp, who distinguished himself for his organisation of relief services following last year's tidal wave, has been appointed Bishop of Aitape diocese in the north-west of Papua New Guinea.
He succeeds Bishop Ignatius Doggett, who has retired.
The tidal wave struck the Aitape area on 17 July, destroying several villages and killing more than 2000 residents.
Bishop Crapp has also been active in handling land disputes and marriage cases within the diocese.
