Philippines    CATHOLIC CHURCH RALLIES AGAINST VISITS OF US FORCES
Church groups have stepped up their campaign against the proposed Visiting Forces Agreement between the Philippine and US governments ahead of a Senate vote on 27 May 27.
In General Santos City south of Kidapawan, Father Colin Bagaforo of Cotabato told rallyists that signatures of one million Visiting Forces Agreement opponents were delivered to the Senate in March.
Catholic bishops have raised concerns over the agreement including control of nuclear facilities and weapons, jurisdiction over American military personnel and unrestricted movement of military vessels and aircraft.
