|UK||LAY CATHOLICS OBJECT TO RELIGIOUS 'ORNAMENTS' IN HOUSE OF LORDS|
In a written submission to the Royal Commission on the future of the Lords, the influential Parliamentary lay association, the Catholic Union, objected to the inclusion of "ornamental figures" from the Church.
The Catholic Herald reports that they insist that any incorporation of peers solely on the basis of faith would undermine the traditional independence of the second chamber.
This follows discussions during the Low Week meeting last month when Bishop David Konstant said that his brother bishops would prefer lay Catholics, rather than clergy, to sit in the reformed chamber.
