The Chilean Bishops' Conference has given top priority to catechesis, because it says the future of Christianity depends on the formation of its youth.
The bishops' communiqué said that they were especially concerned about the economic situation of unemployment, which especially affects the young. They appealed to all to seek in solidarity new and effective solutions.
In statements published by the press, Conference President Archbishop Francisco Errazuriz, explained that unemployment, which according to official figures is around 8.2% with almost half a million out of work, causes such acute anguish "that new and effective actions in solidarity" must be taken.
