Vatican     POPE SAYS CATHOLICS BELIEVE IN THE SAME GOD AS MUSLIMS
Speaking about the importance of dialogue between Christians and Muslims, Pope John Paul II said the Islamic transcendent faith in God that "contributes to the construction of a new human family, based on the highest aspirations of the human heart."
Referring to his historic visit to Casablanca in Morocco in 1985, when he met thousands of young Moslems, he confessed, "We, Christians, acknowledge with joy the religious values we share with Islam. We believe in the same God, the only God, the living God, the God who creates worlds and who lifts creatures to perfection."
The Pontiff said that both Christianity and Islam have "a long history of study, theological and philosophical reflection, art, literature and science which has left its mark on Eastern and Western cultures." Therefore, "the adoration of the one God, Creator of all, encourages us to intensify our reciprocal understanding of one another in the future."
