Philippines    ARCHBISHOP OPPOSING US MILITARY TRAINING STOPS SHORT AT CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
The Philippine Senate ratified the controversial Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) between the US and Philippine government on Thursday despite church protest rallies and prayer vigils outside the Senate building.
    The president of the Catholic bishops' conference, Archbishop Oscar Cruz of Lingayen-Dagupan, said the law must be respected, but he said "it doesn't mean the treaty is all right."
