Bishop Kevin Manning of Parramatta (NSW) has condemned a Tooheys beer advertisement that features a priest in a confessional who is duped into revealing the names of young female parishioners.
    Bishop Manning has labelled the commercial an "idiot advertisement" that "undermines" confession. "I have seen the commercial and I think it is a vilification of something that is very sacred to us," he said.
    "It indicates abysmal ifnorance of the sacred beliefs of Catholics and a total lack of sensitivity. Confessional secrecy has the highest priority in the Catholic Church, and it is not something to be ridiculed. If they did the same thing with the Koran they would be run out of the country," he said.
