Social Welfare    HOW CATHOLICS HELP TO OVERCOME POVERTY
A new book summarises responses to a request to Church agencies to supply information on the ways in which they have been resonding to the challenge of poverty in Australia and overseas.
The book is based on a report titled Ii>Responding to the Challenge, which was prepared by Sr Carmel Leavey OP from date gathered from 40 agencies. It has been published as a 52 page booklet by the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council (ACSJC).
Some of the respondents reported on action taken as a result of the plan of action emerging from the 1996 natinoal Catholic "People First!" Conference, attended by over 500 people and marking the International Year of the Eradication of Poverty.
Copies of the report are available for $4 from the ACSJC (email admin@acsjc.org.au)
