The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart Order is putting its former St Paul's National Seminary in Sydney at the disposal of the Australian Catholic Church. Eight members of the order will be based at the Chevalier Resource Centre, in suburban Kensington. The seminary which formerly occupied the building closed last November.
Headed by Fr Barry Brundell, members of the team are trained variously in theology, spirituality, missiology and medical ethics.
Fr Brundell said at the Centre's opening on 7 April: "Our vision for this new initiative includes accepting challenges from the Australian Church community to which we might respond and act together, both as resource people in our areas of competence and as catalysts for local church groups moving forward with new energy. This will include projects able to be undertaken here at the Centre itself, but we are also willing to travel to regional and remote centres to be at the disposal of local churches throughout the Australia Pacific region.
