East Timor Catholic leaders in
the district of Suai have claimed that decomposing bodies
had been washing up on beaches in Suai. This is according to David Ximenes of the National Council for Timorese
Resistance, speaking on Portuguese radio.
Meanwhile a spokesman for East Timor's anti-Jakarta movement said on Sunday that more than 150 people had been killed by anti-independence militias in the past week, while some estimates said as many as 300 could be dead.
