The staff of key Catholic organisations in East Timor are on the pro-Indonesian militia's hitlist, according to Caritas Australia's East Timor Project Manager, Ms Anne Wigglesworth.
Ms Wigglesworth told the Catholic Weekly that the 'death-list' is part of a systematic attempt to "destroy pro-independence leaders".
She says the homes destroyed last weekend by the paramilitaries, who have established mob-rule in the East Timorese capital of Dili, belonged to people on the list.
Reports from Dili say Caritas East Timor has been told to expect an attack by a militia force armed with guns and machetes.
Members of the mostly lay staff of the East Timor Catholic Justice and Peace Agency are also on the hit-list. Reports from East Timor also say that a prominent Dili Diocese youth worker is missing.
