|Queensland||QUEENSLAND BISHOP CONSIDERS CLERGY SHORTAGE||
Bishop Raymond Benjamin of Townsville has told the ABC that the Australian Catholic Bishops are considering options for overcoming the shortage of clergy.
"We have very, very few priests in this diocese under 60 and very few offering themselves as younger men to study for the priesthood," he told ABC News.
The news report claims that the church is "questioning its role in the new millennium and it is discussing issues such as women entering the priesthood and passing on more responsibilities to lay people."
