Reaching the young Filipino style
In an attempt to boost the number of young Filipinos to read the Bible, the Church in the Philippines has come up with an initiative using Japanese-style "anime".
The Church hopes to spark an interest among the youth to download inspirational Bible verses via their mobile phones.
Christian Today reports the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) member Fr Oscar Alunday, said the concept was a fun way of reaching children who owned a mobile phone but not a bible.
He said he hoped the mobile-text message would give a quick spiritual boost to Christians reading it via their mobile phone.
"Most of the teenagers own a cell phone but not a Bible," Fr Alunday said.
"We have to make use of this very powerful gadget to raise their awareness of the Bible."
A project was recently commissioned by the Philippine Bible Society in 2006 that showed 60 percent of Filipinos do not read the Bible.
