Brisbane Catholics reconnect
A campaign launched before Christmas aimed at welcoming Catholics back to church has attracted more than 300 responses, much to the joy of Brisbane Archdiocese.
The media campaign, Come and Celebrate Christmas, extended an invitation by Archbishop John Bathersby (pictured) to attend Christmas celebrations at local churches.
The Catholic Leader reports almost 300 people phoned in reponse to the campaign and that parish priests said there was an increase in the number of people attending Christmas Masses.
A campaign spokesman said many phoned as early as 5.30am and until quite late in the evening.
"A lot of the people were phoning to find out Mass times, but others had questions about returning to the Church, baptism and community support, including transport to and from Mass," the spokesman said.
Auxiliary Bishop Brian Finnigan said the initiative had been particularly valuable at Christmas.
"Christmas is a lonely time for many and a lot of people responded to this sign of care from the Church," Bishop Finnigan said.
