Cardinal Murphy O'Connor's call to 'come home for Christmas'

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor in London has said a "warm welcome awaits" those who wish to return to the Church this Christmas.

Catholics who have left the church are at the centre of a British campaign to bring them back to the church in the spirit of Advent.

Independent Catholic News reports the Come Home for Christmas campaign launched on the first day of Sunday of Advent in England and Wales, hopes to reach thousands of baptised Catholics who are no longer practicing.

Resourced by the Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation (CASE), the campaign message "Whatever your story or journey, the door is always open to you" was distributed to thousands of parishes.

CASE reports they are "struggling to keep up with demand" since the launch.

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, said a "warm welcome awaits" those who wish to return to the Church.

"At your own pace and in your own time, we'd be interested to hear your story and learn from your experiences," Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor said.

"You are an important and much-loved member of the Body of Christ. Come.''
