Council recognises Parramatta schools director

The Australian Council for Educational Leaders has awarded its prestigious Presidential Citation to Parramatta Diocese Schools Director Greg Whitby.

The annual award is given to an ACEL member who has made an outstanding contribution towards promoting the ideals of the association.

Greg Whitby was awarded for his service to students, staff and parents in both government and Catholic secondary schools and as an assistant principal and principal of Catholic Schools in the Parramatta and Sydney dioceses.

Earlier this year Mr Whitby was also named in the Bulletin's 2007 Smart 100 list as Australia's "smartest, most innovative and creative person working in education."

Mr Whitby said he is honoured to receive the citation.

"Education in today's world is a very challenging endeavour as we strive to make learning and teaching relevant and meaningful for students," Mr Whitby said.

"This recognition affirms that we are on the right track and is a testament to my many colleagues who are delivering quality learning and teaching each and every day in our schools," he said.

Parramatta Diocese religion students first in the state in HSC

Three three students from the Parramatta diocese have placed equal first in Studies of Religion I in the 2007 HSC.

Five students in total placed equal first in Studies of Religion I this year, and among them were: Patricia Muscat from Bede Polding College Windsor, Christopher Moses from Parramatta Marist High School and Lucy Burnitt from McCarthy Catholic College Emu Plains.

Mr Whitby said the the provision of a quality faith-based education is the core work of schools in the Parramatta diocese.

"Terrific results like these in Studies of Religion are a testament to our school communities and the authentic Catholic education they provide."
