Pope's second encyclical for Friday release
Pope Benedict's second encyclical, on the virtue of hope, will be released on Friday.
Catholic World News reports that the document, titled Spe Salvi, will be formally introduced to the media at a Friday news conference by Cardinal Georges Cottier, the former theologian of the pontifical household; and Cardinal Albert Vanhoye, SJ, the former rector of the Pontifical Biblical Institute.
Both the subject matter and timing of the release of the encyclical have been a subject of speculation since July, when papal spokesman, Fr Federico Lombardi, disclosed that the Holy Father had spent a part of his summer vacation drafting a new document.
Vatican sources are indicating another papal document is still to come.
The long-awaited first encyclical by Pope Benedict, Deus Caritas Est was released in January 2006.
