Church Resources welcomes broadband funding
Church Resources yesterday welcomed Communications Minister Helen Coonan's announcement of $5.6 million funding for broadband for health and aged care services in regional NSW and Queensland.
Executive Director and founder of Church Resources, Fr Michael Kelly SJ, says he is pleased the Government had recognised the critical role of technology in the Church and broader not-for-profit sector.
"Within a few years, high speed broadband access and innovative technology solutions will become increasingly important for the not-for-profit sector," Fr Kelly said.
"The Church and not for profit sector provides the glue that holds communities together. This includes schools, hospitals, aged care facilities, welfare agencies, Church communities, and the army of professionals and volunteers that keep them running.
"In the same way that broadband and technology has driven the costs down and improved services for government, industry and consumer sectors, the not-for-profit sector needs to embrace the technology revolution for its own survival," he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Church Resources, Viviana Hood, says the funding from the Federal Government recognised the growing pressure on nursing homes and health centres to manage the treatment and care of ageing people, especially in regional and remote communities.
"With the increasing shortage of clinical and health professionals in regional Australia, it is urgent that the nation develop new and innovative mechanisms to provide high quality care services and deliver them with greater efficiency," Ms Hood said.
"With the Federal Government's assistance, Church Resources and its consortium partners will be able to leverage broadband, knowledge and technology, to provide ageing people and their carers with rapid access to sound expertise, information and advice across the continuum of care," she said.
Church Resources is the Church and not-for-profit sector's foremost purchasing organisation, aggregating buying power for a wide range of products and services, including a strong focus on fulfilling health and aged care sector needs.
