Religious pieces fetch millions at auction
A diptych of the Passion of Christ, crafted between 1360-1380 has sold at auction in Paris for a record $6.6million (4 million euros).
The ivory work, which stretches to 31.4cm, is the largest diptych of the Passion ever registered, AFP repors.
It was part of a stunning medieval French collection of ivory and champleve enamels in excellent condition, known as the Dormeuil Collection.
The total amount fetched was of $15.8 million (9.45 million euros).
Other pieces included a small ivory statue of Virgin Mary and infant Christ, dated around 1250. It sold for 1.5 million euros.
Another special piece from the collection - an enamel reliquary of St Thomas Becket - sold for nearly a million dollars.
