Sydney young Catholics to embrace Halloween

Students and young adults from across Sydney will celebrate Halloween in dramatic style tonight with a production of Saints Alive! at St Mary's Cathedral Crypt.

While Halloween is usually associated with Trick or Treaters, a trio of actors will be putting on a play to mark the feast day.

Producer of Saint Alive! Anthony McCarthy said the inspiration behind putting the play on the spooky night was the "authentic link to all the saints."

The play tells the story of all the most popular saints from St Bernard & St Scholastica to Padre Pio & St Therese, from St Maximilian Kolbe & St Edith Stein to St Claire, St Francis and Australia's very own Blessed Mary Mackillop.

Written by Australian playwright Donald Macdonald, Saints Alive! and will be performed by actors Faye Anderson, Fay Kelton and Donald himself.

"In the lead up to WYD 2008, this is an important moment for Catholics to engage with culture and showcase the rich heritage of the faith,' Mr MacDonald said.

SAINTS ALIVE! is being presented as part of the Towards 2008 Campaign to activate students & young adults for World Youth Day 2008.
