Pope says media self-absorbed
Pope Benedict has urged the media to seek the truth saying it is becoming more 'self-absorbed', as he announced the theme for World Communications Day.
"The Media: At the Crossroads Between Activism and Service. Seeking the Truth in order to share it with others" - the theme for the 42nd World Communications Day - calls on the media to reflect the role it plays in society, Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Archbishop Claudio Celli said.
"Especially the increasing risk of the media becoming self-absorbed and no longer tools at the service of truth - something which is meant to be sought and shared," Archbishop Celli said.
The message of the Holy Father for the World Communications Day is usually published on the feast of St Francis de Sales, the patron of journalists on 24 January, and celebrated on the Sunday before Pentecost, which in 2008 is 4 May.
