Columban warns against climate change skeptics
Columban environmental scientist Fr Charles Rue has warned against climate change deniers who seek to sow doubt that leads to confusion.
Fr Rue has released 'Climate Change and 2007 Federal Election - Mapping a Moral Response' on behalf of the Columban Justice Peace and Integrity of Creation institute.
He says climate change deniers "have vested interests, have been bought off or are just ignorant".
He advises: "Do not be afraid to face up to those who play on religion and people's good will in their denial of climate change."
Fr Rue describes the 2007 Federal Election as a "conversion point", by which he means that it is an opportunity for Australians to make a choice about changing our pattern of energy use.
He quotes John Paul II's 1990 call to Catholics to ecological community: "When man turns his back on the Creator's plan, he provokes a disorder which has inevitable repercussions on the rest of the created order."
