Vic govt comes to WYD funding party

World Youth Day Melbourne has welcomed the Victorian Government's provision of $4 million in funds for next year's events.

Melbourne is Australia's largest archdiocese. It will host the largest contingent of pilgrims during Days in the Diocese, which takes place prior to World Youth Day itself.

Days in the Dioceses will rival any major event ever hosted in Melbourne. There will be over 25,000 visiting pilgrims matched by 25,000 locals. It will be the largest youth event ever staged in Melbourne.

Regional Victoria will also receive funding and will host a series of events for pilgrims in the dioceses of Ballarat, Sale and Sandhurst.

Melbourne's Archbishop Denis Hart described the Government's commitment as "outstanding".
