Vatican police cadet suicides
Pope Benedict has expressed sadness over the apparent suicide of a Vatican police cadet who was distraught after breaking up with a girlfriend.
Associated Press says the incident is a reminder of the 1998 murder-suicide that claimed the life of the Swiss Guard commander and two others.
On Monday, colleagues found 26 year old Alessandro Benedetti mortally wounded in the barracks bathroom.
Vatican spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi said: "Early clues lead (Vatican officials) to believe that the young man wanted to kill himself."
A note is being examined, and an autopsy planned.
The Vatican police force in 150-strong. It protects the pope and other Vatican officials during public appearances.
