APEC agenda "fluff": Caritas chief

The agenda for this week's APEC meeting fails to address major climate change issues, according to Caritas Australia CEO, Jack de Groot.

The Age reports that he said: "The agenda is fluff at the moment, the agenda is not actually mainstream."

The Sydney summit presents a unique opportunity for real progress on climate change, he said. But its agenda fails to address changing weather patterns and water supplies.

"As an international community we need to ensure we are protecting the most vulnerable, and ensuring we act urgently and decisively on climate change," he insisted.

Caritas and other non government organisations plan to offer a running commentary on decisions made at the summit.
