Millions more for Notre Dame, Rudd promises
Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has promised more money for Notre Dame University's teaching, medicine and nursing faculties.
The Catholic Weekly reports that made the promise on a recent visit to the university's Sydney campus.
He said: "I’m highly supportive of initiatives of the Church in education, especially higher education, and welcome continued engagement of Catholic institutions in this area."
The promised funding would support 100 undergraduate places in teaching and 80 places in nursing on the Sydney campus. It would also allow for extra places at the Fremantle campus in Perth.
Cardinal George Pell said: "It is great to have bipartisan support for the university."
