Crowds bag a bargain at Vinnies sale
A fashion frenzy hit the streets of Liverpool in south western Sydney on Monday when the local Vinnies store's $10 bag clothing sale began.
The Liverpool Champion reports that customers rushed into the store to grab a bargain, buying a large plastic shopping bag for $10 and filling it with as many clothes as possible.
Store manager Sharon Raihman said there had been a great response from the community, with an unprecedented number of customers filling their $10 shopping bags to the brim within hours of the sale starting.
"It's been pretty good so far," Ms Raihman said.
"Everyone fills up the bags with as much as they can. People have been pretty surprised when we explain to them they can fill up the whole bag for only $10."
Aside from the clothing sale, which ends this Saturday, customers at Vinnies were stopping in to check out their range of furniture, bedding, books, linen, shoes and more.
Jason Hook, from Wattle Grove, was shopping for an outfit for a 1980s party and found a great deal of variety with a yellow silk shirt topping off a retro get-up.
Ms Raihman said a variety of shoppers from Liverpool would benefit from the sale.
"We've really got clothes for everyone. We've got new stuff too, it's not just second-hand clothing. We receive everything here by donation and there's something for everyone," she said.
According to a media statement last week, profit from the sale will go to help the Vinnies' charity programs.
"Our Vinnies stores are the face of the Society and we rely on the profits raised from our stores to help the poor and disadvantaged in the many services the Society conducts," Sydney Manager of Retail Operations and Distribution, Peter Walker said.
The Vinnies Mega Clothing Bag Sale continues until Saturday at selected Vinnies stores across Sydney.
