Bishops welcome new HR chief
The revamped bishops' Office for Employment Relations has a new director, Ms Susan O'Connor, who took up her post yesterday, according to an Australian Catholic Bishops Conference announcement.
According to the statement, Ms O'Connor was previously the Employment Relations Advisor in the Secretariat for the Australian Catholic Commission for Employment Relations, the precursor to the Office.
The Office, which has an annual budget of $300,000, provides a service to all agencies of the bishops conference on employment relations matters, such as recruitment, disciplinary action and termination of employment.
Welcoming the appointment, Bishop William Morris of Toowoomba (pictured), the bishops' delegate for employment relations, says that Ms O'Connor is ideally placed to assist the Church in providing administrative support to the Australian Catholic Council for Employment Relations.
Ms O'Connor has volunteered in a wide range of community roles including Catholic school boards and neighbourhood houses, and is currently a member of a local water authority consultative committee.
"I am delighted to once again be in a position to contribute to the life of the Church in the area of employment relations," Ms O'Connor said.
"I look forward to reconnecting with Church colleagues and starting a new phase of the Office for Employment Relations."
