Media whiz for Catholic Enquiry Centre

Marita Winters, the head of Sydney archdiocese's media office, will become the new director for the Catholic Enquiry Centre.

Archbishop John Bathersby, the Chairman of the Bishops' Commission for Mission and Faith Formation, announced on Friday the appointment of Mrs Winters (pictured right).

It is a significant move for Mrs Winters after eight years as the Director of the Sydney archdiocese's Catholic Communications.

She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Graduate Diploma of Theology in Marriage and Family from the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family, Melbourne. She is also president of the Australian Catholic Press Association.

The Catholic Enquiry Centre (CEC) is a body of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, founded in 1959 for the better knowledge of Christ and the Church in Australia. It plays an important role in developing adult faith education material.

Archbishop Bathersby said he was delighted with Mrs Winters' appointment, which would bring great experience as well as fresh insight and energy to the CEC.

"The Catholic Enquiry Centre has played a proud role in the Catholic Church in Australia, seeking to connect with those searching for faith as well as people who might wish to return to the faith or those who simply wish to know about Catholic beliefs and practices," he said.

"I am confident Marita will bring both her professional experience and her strong faith to the task of ensuring that the CEC is at the cutting edge with new ways of using modern technology to reach out to the community with the Good News of Jesus Christ."

Mrs Winters said she was very much looking forward to the opportunities ahead.

"This role, with responsibility for evangelisation across Australia, is a significant opportunity to make a new contribution to Catholic life," she said.

"I am delighted that I will be able to share the journey of discovery with people as they come to meet Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church. It will be a source of great inspiration."
