Da Vinci Code makes Opus Dei website a hit
The Hitwise website traffic research company has reported dramatic increases in visits to the Australian Opus Dei website in the wake of publicity surrounding the film The Da Vinci Code.
In its May newsletter, circulated yesterday, Hitwise said its research shows visits to www.opusdei.org.au increased by 80% for the week ending 13 May.
Other religious websites to benefit include ChristianityToday.com (www.christianitytoday.com), the United Church of God (www.ucg.org.au), and Ignatius Press (www.ignatius.com) with 2.8%.
Hitwise, an Australian company that claims to be the world's leading online competitive intelligence service, said that Sony Pictures (www.sonypictures.com), film distributor of The Da Vinci Code, was the main beneficiary, as the Google search engine directed the bulk of traffic to the official site of the film.
